ok i am creating a website for a buddy and he wants a forum integrated on it.Mybb is awesome,its better then buddypress imo
few questions tho
1) is there a way i can hide the forums from users,so they cant see the forums untill they register?
2)is there a way i can make certain forums only viewable by certain users?

You can add a locked forum with password also.
I strongly suggest you use Mybb!
You can go to your admin CP, head to Users & Groups > Groups > Guests > Forums and Posts. You can then change their Viewing Options and Posting/Rating Options. You can also change other groups and change which forums they can see. Go to Forums & Posts > Forum Management and click options to the side of forum you want to hide and click Permissions. You can then change who can see the forum. At less that's how it works for me.
There is also a plugin for Custom User Permissions that lets you assign permissions on a per user basis.
