I have the plugin called Mini Awards but I'm not quite sure how to give someone an award. Would someone kindly give me instructions on how to do so?

Check if there is a Read Me file. Often plugin developers will make such a file with instructions on how to use the plugin. I am going to take a guess that you'll need to go to Admin CP->Users then find Mini Awards or similar name. If you can provide a link to the download it will be easier to help you.
