Unless there's some advanced prototype modification needed in MyBB 1.6 Plugins, they'll work on 1.8.

Most plugins will be easily portable to 1.8. We even have a forum for developers to receive support upgrading their plugins and themes: http://community.mybb.com/forum-156.html

Most of my plugins should be updated within a month of 1.8's release.

There wont be no plugins or themes out for it straight away so what is everyone going to do? Stick with 1.6.x for now till 1.8 gets more attention with more themes and plugins?

Actually, you're wrong on that. I will be making themes for the new versions. It's not hard to make themes for MyBB. However, it is hard to submit themes on MyBB when they keep denying your submissions.

Especially when I can port vBulletin themes to MyBB.
