How can I put a limit on the number of images a specific user or usergroup can put in a single post without limiting the rest of my users?

You would need a plugin to have that kind of restriction.

That's fine, I don't mind adding a plugin. Does one exist? I'm not sure the wording to use in a web or forum search for such a plugin.

One does not exist so I have moved your thread to plugin requests. While I do make custom plugins, I already have a couple orders that were created. It'd be a minimum of 1 - 2 weeks before I'd be able to do this. Otherwise perhaps someone else can fulfill your request.
