Do you know when MYBB will stop supporting 1.6 and switch to 1.8?
I don't think there's a specific date. 1.4 was in support for a long time after 1.6 was released. It'll be probably even long for 1.6.

This forum is now running 1.8 so I'd expect the stable release of 1.8 to come out very shortly (depending on what bugs is found).
MyBB 1.6 will be supported with security updates going forward, I am not completely sure about bug fixes.
