I have a serious question to make you today: Can I install 1.7.2 from GitHub repositories called mybb-master folder on my live site and then, update when 1.8.0 officially comes out?

No.

MyBB 1.7 is the alpha version of MyBB which cannot be used in production. The same applies to the beta versions. There is no upgrade path. You need to wait until MyBB 1.8.0. is released.

they are in making, better not use. Use stable version, which is in the download section, and wait for 1.8.0.
