I tried to convert smf to mybb and got errors when I tried to move the
users from smf to mybb.

After that, nobody was able to register:

Loginname isn't a default column of mybb - are you using any plugins?

Did you run the merge system multiple times?

Did you run it and then test it before opening the new forums up to your users? You should run Merge and test that is works. Once the forum works, put the old forum in maintenance mode and then run the Merge System to a fresh DB
