When I browse to the intall directory and click the "Upgrade to 1.8.0" button I get this message immediately:

Reupload your 1.6 backup (I hope you have one), then login there as the administrator. Afterwards upload all files and do the upgrade.
I restored back to 1.6.15, logged in as the admin user, browsed to the install dir and clicked the upgrade button and got this:

Odd, that shouldn't happen when you're logged in...
You could try to replace "inc/class_session.php" with the one from your backup, then run the upgrade and upload the new class_session.php after the upgrade.
Could you send me your MySQL version and configuration via PM so I can try to reproduce the bug? Never had it when I tested the update.
Thanks, that change allowed me to perform the upgrade. But I got one error during the upgrade, see the attached screenshot. PM with version details is sent.
Okay I upgraded to 1.8 a couple of days ago and since that time, nothing related to javascript is working,
the edit button is not working, the options expanders are not working the ACP.
I've tried disabling all the plugins I'm using but to no avail, please help ASAP.

You need to update your templates. If you use the Find Updated Templates feature you will see which templates have changed. You can either revert them back to the 1.8 default or you can use the Diff Report Tool to figure out what has changed.
