ok so title says it all. 

i have copied my files to local host  set up new databse and imported my data. changed config.php and changed domain etc in settings.php then tried to alter them in ACP but when i try to login my password just does now work. anysiuggestions as to why? tried changing my password removing the salt etc but no joy it is bizarre, i only want to upgrade it to 1.8 and see if my site works ok before doing it on my live site

to add a bit more info my forum is at localhost/forum/ i can get to the main dashboard page but as soon as i c;ick configure or preferences i get kicked back to the login screen.

i have set

$settings['cookiedomain'] = ".localhost";
$settings['cookiepath'] = "/forum/";
$settings['cookieprefix'] = "";

remove .localhost for the cookie domain and keep it blank like below

$settings['cookiedomain'] = "";

Make sure the cookie path is correct too (localhost/forums/ from the look).
