After the 1.8 update, a post's time is no longer displayed as , [12:00 pm 09/10/14], but instead as [One hour ago]. After a few hours it will display the appropriate time, but is there a way to make it do so from the time it is posted?

option is not available. needs editing core files

Edit: you can try using this plugin by a fine coder
(not sure if this plugin is released here)
