What theme are you using? Some themes remove the usergroup images on the postbit for a more compacted design. If the theme you are using has done this, you will have to manually add the variable.
For example, on the 1point8 theme, you can add it back in by placing "{$post['groupimage']}" below " {$post['usertitle']}<br />" in your postbit and postbit_classic templates. (Templates -> your theme -> Postbit Templates)
If you still can't do this then just give me admin access and i will do it for you.
