Hello,

    I am curious if there is any way to restrict certain users from a thread --  Is it possible to lock a thread and allow access via passcode? Or some other means?

I.E. Group A can access thread A and B, Group B can only access Thread B and Thread A is locked.

MyBB generally handles permissions more on a forum level rather than on a thread level. I suppose it'd be feasible to create a plugin to lock a specific thread, although doing full usergroup permissions by each thread will become a real mess quickly.

You can restrict and lock users from getting in but only from forums not threads. You should use some plugin for locking down threads too.

I moved your thread to Plugin Requests since this isn't a core feature of MyBB.
