Hi,

I have three moderators and I would like them all to have different username colors. As far as I understood if I affect the color of the username I can do it only for the whole group.

I'm sure there must be a way to do this.

If anybody knows how to, please share.

You can't do that without a plugin/core edit. There is a 1.6 modification: http://mods.mybb.com/view/nickname-styles which you can try to get working with 1.8. Or request a 1.8 plugin here: http://community.mybb.com/forum-65.html
