I would like to avoid necroposting on my forums community as much as possible.
I know there is a specific plugin for MyBB 1.6.x but I am not sure if there's a plugin for 1.8.x too.
I want threads to auto-close themselves after X time not receiving replies any more.
Is there something that I can do for free for this?

Right now there currently isn't. You can try changing the compatibility line to read "18" on a plugin for 1.6 and see if it works.
You know, that plugin I found didn't get updated yet since 2011 and it is for 1.4.14 and 1.6.3 and I am not sure if it is totally compatible with 1.8.0! I hope some one will create a similar plugin as soon as possible and give it for free in here.
If I have spare time tomorrow I might be able to write a plugin that uses the task system to do this.

Lockoldthreads plugin for 1.6.x (last updated on 2011) work pretty fine on 1.8.x? I really would like to use that plugin since there aren't any for 1.8.x atm!
You can try changing the compatibility line to 18* and see, but I can't guarantee it will.
