Javascripts are not working after the upgrade.

You can either revert these templates to their default - meaning all the changes you've made to it will be removed - or you can see a Diff Report which will show you exactly what's changed. If you have a custom theme installed, it is probably best that you look at the Diff Report and apply the changes you need.

please try to follow above posted suggestion. if you feel not comfortable then you may
put your forum offline and wait for someone trustworthy here to offer direct help ..

complete fixing of templates is a time consuming work and it could be a paid work.
instead, you may like to install a new good looking theme for MyBB 1.8 and work with it.

I had the exact same problem and installing a theme designed for 1.8 fixed it all. I used the default 1.8 theme and the forum members like it better than the old theme I had so it worked out well.
