Is there a way to make it unlimited, or at least to increase the existing limit??

ACP->Configuration->Posting. Increase the value of Max Message Length. You may need to change the column type of the subject column in your mybb_posts table to be MEDIUMTEXT or LONGTEXT as well. Note that more storage space will be required.
