jesse did our updates a few times in the past, and a few other people

they are now unavailable

i'm trying to learn how to do the updates

it's locations and terminology i have issues with

were currently running myBB version 1.6.12

have been trying for weeks to get to version 1.8.0 (1800)

have tried this way (see youtube link)

when we get to "MyBB is already installed"

it just shows the version were running, and not new version

what did i miss?

and via cpanal way,

fist off, should we be in file manager or legacy file manager?

and if lagacy file manager, what directory

home, web root, or document root?

bottom line, where in cpanal does the "upload" file go?

in simple newb english please

one more question, what is "MYBB merge system"?

do we need to do that?

first it would be better to take backup of the database, custom themes, settings.php & config.php files

plugins should be disabled. take a note of active plugins before deactivating the plugins.

earlier version of MyBB files should be overwritten with new version files & upgrade script should be run

file managers available at web host control panel could be confusing for upgrading MyBB.
I prefer using a ftp client (eg. filezilla - firefox has fiteftp addon)
