How can I make it so they receive a message from the server/forum notifying them that they recieved reputation from someone?

assuming that you are using MyBB 1.6.x, MyAlerts plugin can notify users for the reputation received.

Both of those won't work for 1.8, is it possible to make it so when you press the send reputation button it just uses a built in mybb function to send a user a PM?
