Most of the plugins are not compatible for 1.8 so i guess i have no option other then to take them down. I wonder how i should proceed to remove the successfully without any issues?

I do not think that removing these plugins would cause any error for the forum. I have deleted plugins files in the past and i never experienced an error unless i deleted an active plugin.
If you are getting non supported error in your cpanel then you can delete those plugins.
