when i go to myforum/merge/ do i need to enter my owns forum database or the other forums? i'm trying to merge another forum with my own.

I haven't used the merge system myself lately, but I'd assume for the other forum. Logically, it should read your inc/config.php for your own forum's database,

Take backups, try it, and if all hell breaks loose, restore.
