okay, i use
this ftp client. i am trying to follow your instructions, i can only CHMOD settings.php and config.php. When i chmod the next 2, those files screw up and i have to chmod then back to the original number.
why does it do this?
You should contact your host as CHMOD has nothing to do with MyBB.

nevermind, i figured it out. in the installation guide it doesn't say you have to change half to URL.

that made no sense :| You don't have to change half the url to CHMOD any files. heh....
For future reference, if you try to CHMOD and it says something like "Error: Permission denied" or something, that means you don't have permission to CHMOD, and we can't help you with that (you have to contact your webhost). Try to see if you can install MyBB without CHMODing the files, and if it doesn't work, contact your webhost
