Can anyone share with me a detailed tutorial on converting a forum from phpbb to the latest version of Mybb?
It would be much appreciated.

I did. the only thing is that my ftp is currently holding phpbbs files/folders

you can install MyBB in another folder and use the merge system to merge contents from phpBB database.
