so i have an old plugin how to compatible the plugin with MyBB 1.8.1
note the plugin is currently up for 1.6
you can open plugin file in a editor like notepad++ and change compatibility line from 16* to 18*
that just makes plugin accepted for installation - it doesn't make plugin really compatible.
