Do you know this is a MyBB 1.6 plugin?
In MyBB 1.8 the use differente type of buttons, this is the reason why it dind't works.

That's not a plugin, it's a graphics.
What is your forum? Are you sure they are uploaded to the correct spot? These files are in .gif format not .png perhaps MyBB is looking for that. If you provide a link I can tell you for sure.
edit: More information
The buttons in 1.8.X are sprites, which don't work the same way the 1.6.X buttons work. Perhaps if you want to do so it'd be best to ask the people in the graphic's request area to give you a hand with that, but I'm afraid it's beyond my reach.
