I'm not sure why as this isn't the first theme I have made and haven't had problems in the past, but for the life of me I can't seem to be able to change the blue links. Also I am no longer able to add a background image for whatever reason.

regarding the links colors, a:link and a:visited should have same color defined through the css style properties (eg. in global.css)
regarding background image, show what code you have tried and give your forum url if the theme is available there

I have checked the a link and visited link for that theme and they are the same color. - #663300 for both.

looks like the theme's css not taking effect... try this, first open the global.css in advanced mode, save it... rebuild cache from cache manager... open your forums and do a hard refresh (Ctrl+F5).....
