why doesn't a post get deleted now? It stays highlighted purple and does not go away?
Also where are the changes that have been made in 1.8.
Like a whats new page so I can read all this stuff??

That's the new soft delete feature; you now have to use the mod tools dropdown to hard delete.

Is there any documentation on this? Can it be turned off? Does that mean I have to manually delete every post that a member soft deletes?

ACP -> Configuration -> General Configuration -> Enable Soft Delete -> set to No and Save
