ACP -> Tools & Maintenance -> Database Backups -> Select All -> Perform Backup.

The download will begin, the archive file downloaded will be damaged.
However, changing the Save Method to Backup Directory will solve the issue.
Other noticeable thing is, the archive downloaded will be much larger than the one saved to the Backup Directory.
Downloading from Backup Directory to the computer has no issues.

I've never experienced this. The few times I created a backup from the acp I've downloaded it without problems. Also we fixed a few issues with backups lately and none of the people worked on them reported an issue with the download itself.
