Confused
Update6...
After 3dys, it appears, according to the ACP, the 'mass mail' finally got sent 100%.
But, the host made some points (additional 'discussion' below)... ie spam and failing forums etc.
But, on the mass mail (in this case used to help stop spam), sounds like maybe it needs to be limited to a smaller amount of users and/or a 3rd party smtp needs to be used if possible.
Guess that is the ( Subject: ) question... is 3rd party SMTP possible with MyBB for 'mass mail' ?

Quote:Hello,
Unfortunately, forum spam is an ongoing battle for everyone and there is really no cure-all for the issue other than a lot of good moderation.
Which is why so many forums fail, because they sound great in theory, but when the admin finds just how much work is involved they move on to something else.
Most forum admins choose to ban certain spamming countries and networks using .htaccess, so that is something you can look into if you have not already done so.

Good to hear, ie the normal MyBB email notification to users, via email, for registration pswds, posts to their threads, etc are ok.
Ironically, the 'mass mail' to user groups was being used to help stop spam by asking questionable users/groups, who made it past all normal MyBB registration screening processes, to verify their registration with a return email answer... 'robots' are not usually able to do that.
But, understand HM concern, and will try to get some help, via MyBB forum, on how to help stop user spam with 3rd party smtp for sending confirmation email to user groups.
Please let us know if you have any ideas about sources etc.
Thank you.

Hello,
We never said that.
We said that we do not allow mass mailings.
User notifications, post notifications, registration emails, etc. are fine.
Newsletters, and other types of mass mailings to mass mail all of your users are not because they are too easily mistaken for spam.
Therefore, if you need to send newsletters and those types of mass mailings to your users, we suggest using a 3rd party SMTP service.

Thank you for the followup.
So, HostMantis cant really host forums that (most all do) need to notify users, via email, of registration pswds, posts to their threads, etc ?

Update5...
Just finished 'discussion' (below) with HostMantis hosting service 'support'.
Sounds like they dont support the MyBB 'mass mail'... or at least not at a very fast pace.
How to incorporate 'external smtp' with MyBB ?
Where/how to find info ?
Thoughts ?
Thanks much.

Quote:Hello,
Most apps allow you to configure an external SMTP server, which is where you would enter your 3rd party mailers configuration.

Thank you for the reply and info.
So, although HM offers MyBB for download from cPanel 'Categories/Forums', HM does not allow the MyBB internal 'mass mail' function ?
Am guessing it may be difficult to use a '3rd party' email service from within MyBB, but maybe a plugin ?
Guess we could address the question on the MyBB forum ?

Hello,
As per our Terms of Service, we do not allow mass mailings of any kind.
If you need to send newsletters, etc. we would suggest a 3rd party mailing service such as Mailchimp or Sendgrid.

Sending 'mass mail' to MyBB user group with about 350 members (pls see attchd scrnsht).
Is now at about 87% complete after 2dys+.
Is the slowness server related ?

Please advise.
Thank you.

Update4... over 48hrs later, and at 87%, hmmmm 'maybe' done in 72hrs ?
Update3... 20+hrs later and at 58%, might be complete tomorrow ?
Update2... 10hrs later and stuck at 44% ?
Update1... guess it must just be a slow process.
2hrs later its at 29% ?

Trying to send (348 users) mass mail with 'Tools & Maintenance > Task Manager > Mass Mail > Run this task now', but seems to be hung-up at '15%' after about an hour wait (pls see attchd scnshot).
Is that a normal time-frame for sending mass mail ?
Thoughts ?
update7...
Am thinking, at this point, there is no answer (3rd party external smtp for ACP 'mass mail'?) here.
Have tried 'browsing' the question, with some connects to old MyBB forum threads etc, but so far no luck.
Any idea of other sources, or is it just not possible ?
Thoughts ?
