Check whether....
1. The theme you are using is compatible with 1.8
2. ACP >> Configuration >> Reputation >> Enable Reputation Functionality is set to "Yes"
3. ACP >> Templates >> Post Bit Templates >> postbit has the "{$post['button_rep']}" variable in the template..

That's about theme for sure if you think on stars thread rating.
On one theme it's showing, I rated one thread, on the other it don't show when thread is not rated, but show when it is...
I will check it.
And reputation button always showing for me...
