Would this tutorial be outdated for 1.8? I am wanting to put my registration into a modal but I can't seem to get it to work with 1.8.

I get this message when I try register: Our systems detect that you may be a spammer and therefore you have been denied registration. If you feel this is a mistake, please contact the Administrator.

I have disabled all spam settings and all the reg options such as captcha ect... Still seems to show this.

are you using a 1.8 compatible theme on your forum... try to replace the member_register template with default one...
