Have you changed the Compatibility in the plugin so that it will run on your version?

It's all wrong.

Replace
"compatibility"     => "16*,18*",

WITH

"compatibility"     => "18*", 
no change with
"compatibility"     => "18*", 

still ...
christmas light activated= no editor
christmas light deactivated= editor yes
That plugin was created for MyBB 1.6. It's likely the javaScript is causing a conflict with the new JS for 1.8. The mods site you linked to has been archived (and shows a notice as such) as it only has plugins for 1.6 on it which may not be compatible with 1.8.
