Full Version: Internal link structure not merged

Hi,

We discovered after a successfull merge that the complete internal link structure in all forum topics is not changed. In other words; In a topic a link to another thread in the same forum isn't changed.

This means that all internal links in the new forum still have the url to the old forum.

Since there are thousands of internal links, each with their own paramaters it's impossible to change this by hand.

So hope for a solution.

Kind regards,
can you post a couple of sample links - how they appear in posts and how they should be
internal links should be of similar pattern - and could be fixed by running SQL queries
(note: I have no expertise with those links fixing. someone will be able to guide ..)
Sure here it is:

Current situation of internal link (both in old and new forum):

http://www.domain.org/forum/index.php/to...#msg188259

Should be:

http://www.newdomain.org/showthread.php?...#pid377532
There are several reasons why we don't try to change url's.

(2014-12-01, 02:19 PM)Jones H Wrote: [ -> ]The reason for this is pretty easy: We simply don't know your old domain. We can't use the domain MyBB is running on as it may be another one. And for the same reason old id's aren't changed. It was already prettty difficult to change the attachment codes to use the new ID's (in the development version).

Non-technical version: It'd likely produce more errors than it'd solve.
topic IDs (#tid) and post IDs (#pid) are not retained from pre-merge.
looks like that is a big issue in converting the internal links back to original destinations
Thnq for your respond and clear answer.

Too bad this thing isn't mentioned clearly in the merge section. Now it took us multiple days to find out the total merge was just a waist of time because internal links simply don't merge too.

Too bad cauz MyBB looked like a good forum to went further were we left (SMF).

Anyway. Thank you again for your quick response. Appreciate it.

Kind regards,

B.
