Hi. I run a website with about 150000 monthly visitors. There's a lot of discussion in the comments section of each post and so I'd like to start a forum to go with the site. I've been looking at the various software available and I think MyBB would be best for me but I'd like to make sure before taking the plunge. I'm looking for a few features in particular and I want to make sure they are available:

1. A paid membership option that allows me to charge subscription fees for a member class that allows people to view images and certain forums that are otherwise closed to the public.

2. Some sort of script or option that turns particular terms into affiliate links. I've seen this done on forums in the past. For example, every reference to a hotel is linked to an affiliate link through Agoda.com

Are these things available in MyBB?

I am proficient with computers but certainly no expert. The last "coding" I learned was HTML back in about 1997. I've used content management systems like Wordpress since then. I was a mod on a Phpbb forum back in about 2005 but haven't worked with a forum since then.

Thank you very much for your time and input
yes, you can use MyBB for your forum.
however you may have to use a premium plugin / customized plugin for the first requirement.
Mybb is good for everyone

What kind of money do you think that would require and where would I source it?

And how would I do the second requirement? I literally have no idea where to begin. In Wordpress I just use an easy plug in.
Mybb is best ever.
see VIP Membership plugin
if you need more options for such plugin then you have to get a customized plugin. coders might charge 25 US$ - 50 US$

Thanks.

That's not so great as it only allows you to upgrade users, it has no interface to accept payments. That's a problem. I can easily find mods/plugins for phpBB, Simply Machines and others that allow you to accept paid subscriptions by PayPal. Is there really nothing like this for MyBB?

Do any of these work for 1.8?

If not, is it still safe to use 1.6?
^ MySubscriptions plugin works on MyBB 1.8.x

some of the plugins coded for MyBB 1.6.x can work on MyBB 1.8.x by changing compatibility line in the plugin file

if required, you can use MyBB 1.6.16 (latest security release of MyBB 1.6 series). it is more secured than earlier versions.
