When upgrading to 1.8 I'd like to do a full fresh upload with an exception of user avatars. So, we won't have old stray plugin files, etc anymore. 

What would be the best way to delete all the plugin files that exist in the many folders? Just backup user avatars/settings/config and delete and restore the config/settings/avatars?

Edit: Nevermind. I redowloade dthe plugins and am deleting the files manually from the file structure.

You just backup the DB in your host and reinstall back your forum and upload the DB back to your forum..the DB has all your user and thread..

Backup DB
Deactivated all plugin
Put your board in offline.

Then upgrade
