So I understand that giving a user reputation ratings you can give positive and negative ratings for posts and per user. What does that do to a user's overall rating in the grand scheme. So if user A has 100 posts and two positive ratings and user B has 100 posts and 99 positive ratings wouldn't their "reputation" look the same. Wouldn't it be better to calculate the number of posts to the user's "post rating" for instance, giving them a rating percentage. I hope I making sense with this post, so don't give me a negative if I am,

User A would have a rep of 2 , User B would have a rep of 99.
When you go to the reputation report page for a user you can see rep given by users and rep from posts

I guess I could try better to explain. It doesn't tell me, how their reputation relates to the number of posts they made which would make more sense to "how many" reps they got. So if User A had 2 positives out of 2 posts and User B, lets say had to positives out of 99. What would separate them? User B, obviously had fewer posts people responded to, so their reputation score/health would actually be lower.
reputation can be added for the posts (useful post / like post content) & also reputation can be for the user (eg. helpful user)
IMO, reputation should be just a indicator of user's contribution to the forum. do not take it seriously.
And adding negative reputation should be available only to the administrators (& may be to super moderators)
this can be set through group permissions
I agree @.m., for support sites a user's contribution to the forum is important in terms of reputation. But for say, a fan site, I think a user's "opinions" are more important so the member's can see how a member's posts are judged in relation to that. I myself have no problem with member's saying another member's post is negative or ridiculous in their "opinion" because opinions are not only welcomed but encouraged. Hope that makes sense where I'm coming from.
^ if opinions expressed in posts are important then I'd prefer removing post reputation and add a likes system!

That's the problem with likes. If all you can do is like you can't give an opposing opinion. Not every opposing opinion requires a post reply. Sometimes you just want to say, "I don't agree" without some long diatribe.
Now having said that there has to be a way to create that formula, much the same way it shows the percentage of a users total post percentage for the site. I can try and hobble my way to answer but if someone can create a field with this equation it may be way quicker than I can figure it out, which may be the next release of mybb 2.0.
