If you haven't already go to Config->Server & Optimization Options. Enable turn on Template Start and End Comments. You can then view the source of your page to see which template might have an extra <br />.

you can remove <br /> at the beginning of newpoints_postbit template or <br /> at the end of postbit_mood template
