It keeps inserting tags and sometimes new lines for no reason even after I edit them out.

That's how SCEditor works, we can't do much without heavily modifying its core. Anyways, marking as duplicate: http://community.mybb.com/thread-159045.html You may bump that thread if you wish but it's not the highest priority for us.
