I am running mybb 1.6.16 and my forum url is in the signature.

I am basically trying to change the color from to green to gray or something of that nature. Is it possible it could be in the templates?

check if its in ACP >> Templates >> Your theme's Templates >> Forum Bit Templates >> forumbit_depth2_forum
