Works really great and looks amazing, props to the author!

One problem though, on firefox the image alt text that appears on mouseover (i.e. [+]) refuses to go away on firefox and just stays on the screen blocking the button

well, fixed a ton (omg so many) of validation errors so that was good
Still no closer to finding what's going wrong with the spoiler tags though :/

You still have 39 errors to go; if the html is incorrect then it can "break" css based effects. Get the html to 100% perfect on showthread, see if that fixes it.
