This is the first time I have installed MyBB, although I have administered an existing instance. To experiment with upgrading MyBB 1.6 and 1.8, I want to install MyBB 1.6 on a Centos 5 guest in VirtualBox. This means I have a Linux environment but no web hosting facilities (such as cPanel).
I have installed MySQL, PHP and Apache. I have also downloaded MyBB and reached the MyBB installation pages in the browser.
I am now at the page "Database Configuration" and am being prompted to enter the database name and user name. I have very little MySQL experience. How should I generate these details?
My goal is to import our 'production' MyBB database into this test instance so that I can experiment with it offline. How would I do that?
