it just taking up so much space ... how can I fix that ?

What is the link to your forum? It looks like the postbit isn't floating the stats to right.

Edit the postbit and postbit_classic templates in Templates > Your Theme's Templates > Post Bit Templates

Find the references that sound like what you're removing, and you should be good.
