The toolbar at the top of almost every theme I have stopped working when I upgraded to 1.8.4 along with every plugin
The update breaks themes and plugins.

How do I find working themes for 1.8.4 which have working bbcode?

Think I maybe better off changing over to Vbullitin becausen atleast I won't suffer such issues as an admin

I have no problems with the editor and plugins after upgrading from 1.8.3. to 1.8.4. Perhaps something went wrong with the upgrade process.
Try to run File verification (AdminCP -> Tools & Maintenence -> File Verification)
