Is it possible to set a specific avatar to a specific group?

for example on my forums we use the British Armed Forces ranking structure. So a Warrant Officer 2 would have the WO2 insignia

You can set it for rank and via templates make it look like avatar. It will work perfect if you disable avatars and have only that. But if you want it to be just avatar, changable, I thing that you need a plugin for that.

I will rather use it for rank at your place, sk everyone can see it and user can have avatar, but ok.
