I recently had 1.6 but I notice 1.8 was out and didn't see it till later. I upgrade everything just fine without any problems or errors but I am looking at my default 1.8 theme and it just doesn't look right. What am I missing?

Try going to the templates and look for the templates that need updating (the default set) and revert them. Do the same with the default theme css stylesheets.
