Is it possible to change the mybb 1.6 last post time to the 1.8 version?

As in mybb 1.6 shows a date and time. mybb 1.8 shows hours since last post. Reason being i have 2 forums one is 1.6 highly customized and the other standard 1.8.

Obviously making the 1.6 work with 1.8 will take time but i want to make this change at least because its so much nicer.

Is it possible? and if so how.
