MyBB Community Forums

I recently hosted onto Hostgator and used MyBB to power it - however, unfortunately, to link the two together, Hostgator only provides and older version of MyBB, where many plug-ins aren't compatible.

Obviously I wish to update the MyBB they gave me, and unfortunately, no matter how much I read and try to figure it out, I just can't simply figure out how to successfully upgrade my account. I have been working on it for hours now and it's getting pretty frustrating (especially since I am paying Hostgator for this) :c

If someone could help me, or at least just really dumb down the explanation to upgrade my MyBB on the site I have now, that would be great!

to which MyBB version you want to upgrade ? MyBB 1.8.4 or MyBB 1.6.16 ?
former might not have good number of plugins usable for your forum.

as you are having a fresh forum you do not have to worry much about upgrading
you can put forum offline, upload the required version files and run the upgrade script

I want to go to the 1.8.14
I was thinking about doing that, but since I'm with Hostgator as well, Hostgator only offers the 1.6 version to merge with - so I need to upgrade it unfortunately

please forget about what is provided by web host. you have to learn doing it manually.

I think I will try to hire someone to make the update for me since this is just being a big headache at this point
