I was wondering if one could somehow install and test MyBB on their own non-server computer. The only posting would be by me. The point of it is to get used to the admin controls before going live online and before hiring a hosting company.

Thank you.
You would need both PHP and MySQL installed on your computers. If you're running Linux, you should have that- or it'd be easy to install. If you're on an average Windows XP...you don't have that.

There should be a myBB demo somewhere though. You could always use http://createmybb.com to get a board up fast and just mess around with the Admin panel.
try this http://www.easyphp.org/?lang=en

EasyPHP is a complete software package allowing to use all the power and the flexibility that offers the dynamic language PHP and the effecient use of databases under Windows. Package includes an Apache server, a MySQL database, a fully PHP execution, as well as easy development tools for your web site or your applications.
That's a lot to do just to test out MyBB.
OpenSourceCMS have a demo of MyBB 1.2.3 set up: http://opensourcecms.com/index.php?optio...ew&id=2124

Probably the best option you have (though they are still using MyBB 1.1.8 so the controls will be a little bit different Toungue). Play around with a test forum there until you get used to it Big Grin.
Thank you for the tips. I will try them out.
