I have a forum running 1.8.4, do I just upload 1.8.5 and overwrite all files, then run install? nothing else?

Wouldn't this overwrite important files? like config etc, or do they get re-set..

config.php file is not replaced by the files from upgrading pack.
And there is a changed files pack for upgrading from MyBB 1.8.4 to MyBB 1.8.5
