The I'm using a profile plugin and vm's don't show up at all in any new theme you add, only on the original/ default  theme.
Also the forum picture plugins only show up on the default themes. 


do you guys know what could be going on?

I'm guessing it's a jquery related issue. Try loading jquery before other scripts.

Which other themes are you trying to install? Are you sure these are 1.8 compatible schemes?
