It can be done through FTP? After downloading the recent files from http://www.mybb.com/download/ , or it requires more to be done?

Please be advised that 1.6 is entering EOL in under a month. We strongly encourage an upgrade to 1.8 as soon as possible, following http://docs.mybb.com/1.8/install/upgrade.
